I have a 94 xlt 4x4 and I have only had it since June and put pads on it twice already. I know somthing is haning up but I dont have any pull and both sides wear evenly. I have a problem when it sits over night and I start to go and hit the breaks for the first time the whole system seems to lock up and stop abruptly. It does seem that the rears lock up more because of less weight but once I stop and start to go again everything is fine. It only does this the first time I use the brakes after it sits awhile ( 4 hours or so ). If anyone can please help me I would greatly appreciate it. I plan on changing the pads this weekend and need to know where to look for an issue. I was wondering if it could be a bad master cylinder or a bad break line.

Again any help is greatly appreciated.
Thanks for your time.

its your rear shoes. almost every ranger does this. mostly after rain or humid weather

Exactly thats when I notice it more. Do I just need to change the shoes or shoes that not help. Also is that what is causing the excisive wear on the from is the rears hanging up.

i was just about to post a thead askin the same thing.

but i dont have rear breaks and it still does it?

First thing to do would be to jack up the truck and determine which wheel(s) is hanging up.Could be (one or both of) the pucks in the calipers sticking-could be a broken spring on a shoe in the rear.

It was happening to me quite often and I finally found out what the issue was. My ABS valve wasn't doing it's thing and so I didn't have any rear brakes period. I replaced my abs valve and now I have rear brakes.

My wheels locked up fast because I had only front brakes and those pads are just as sensitive to moisture. I'm getting them replaced soon anyways because I've wore them down over halfway since I figured out I had no rears.
