ok....update; you guys helped me find the info on my front axle gears.....unfortunately, i have the hybrid (dana 35 w/28 guts) 4:10 gears....manual lockouts....2wd works great....4h unlocked makes a little noise in the front....4h locked pops like crazy......pulled the lockouts....lockouts look good....grabbed the splines of the shaft and i can wiggle the shaft up & down, both sides.....all u-joints are good.....put a bar in a joint on passenger side to stop it and spun main shaft turning only the driver side shaft unlocked.....one area in the revolution that does not feel right.....reached out and locked and spun main shaft again....intensified rough feeling in same area of revolution.....i'm thinking ring & pinion need replaced?......what about where the shaft comes thru the hub?....should there be any play in that shaft?....i am just guessing, the bearings need replaced?.....hub?......i don't have the experience or tools to do this myself.....any ideas of shop cost?.....thanks for any help, rangers!.....(edit) bro & nephew said they would help......they have the tools......just need to get a chiltons......where can i get the parts cheapest?.....almost forgot the big question on parts; with the hybrid dana 35 w/28 guts, do i buy the 35 4:10's or 28 4:10's.....28 gears, right?

Go to a junk yard and get a D35 pig and axle shafts. Put 4.10 gears in it and have a stronger fixed truck. All you need are the inner axle shafts. The Ujoints are the same, the inner shafts (that go into the differential) are different.

wtb; ring & pinion, pig & gears, or entire front......35/28 4:10 hybrid for this truck (94 ranger)......need it shipped to sw iowa 50801 or will pick-up within 3 hour drive......lonnie1@mchsi.com

Hay there, I've been having the same problem with my 94 4L 4X4 Ranger Splash with manual locking hubs. The only time there is squeaking and a bit of a grinding is when the hubs are locked in place. I've checked the locking hubs and they were good and my front diff. fluid didn't have any kind of metal shavings. I also notice alot off play once my hubs were off! is there supposed to be any play at all? I'm wondering wut you ended up doin to fix the problem and if you think i'm dealing with the same thing???

OP, I am assuming you have the 4 banger ranger or 3.0?

Other guy above me, If you took your hubs off and the wheels wiggle then replace the wheel bearings.
