The dreaded ABS light came on and I have no idea why. Was driving into work and, BAM!!! ABS light comes on. I have no idea what to even check for. Any thoughts.

Ok. Calm down a bit. Truck won't explode because of an abs light.

How's your brake fluid level?

Easy fix. Remove the bulb. Move on with life.

If its RABS its useless even when it is working.

Yes, check brake fluid

If its OK get under truck and on the top side of rear axle differential you will see a 2 wire sensor, unplug it and check connector, make sure its not corroded
Plug it back in and go for a drive, see if ABS light come on again

If it does come on, replace that sensor, $20, and see if that helps

Sometimes rust will build up on the sensor (They are magnetic) and will throw a code. That would only apply if you have four wheel abs instead of just RABS.

I have never had low brake fluid set off an ABS light before, that is until now. Topped up the fluid and the light went out. Sorry guys for bothering you. I appreciate the input.

Good stuff :)

Thanks for the follow up post, it will help someone else down the road

Glad it was that easy. It makes sense. Neither the base brake system nor the abs system can function properly without adequate fluid. So you get a warning that something is amiss. Unfortunately, in these older vehicles built before microcomputers, if they had tried to give you a specific warning light for each thing that could go wrong, it would look like the cockpit of a 747 or a Saturn V rocket with the hundreds of little warning lights. So fewer indicators were installed that served multiple functions.

Nowadays, you get a message on a screen, sometimes accompanied by a soothing voice. "The air pressure in your left front tire is 0.05psi low. Please find a suitable place to park and call for professional assistance. You are too stupid to handle this on your own. Thank you."

All you have to do is say "Alexa, inflate my tires".

so I just bought the truck , trying to fix it little by little so , it’s manual transmission, 2.3L . So I turn on the truck , and the abs flashes 4 times and it stays on the 5th time . So I was looking at that code saying system dumps too many times . What does that mean rear break may lock , and how can I fix it

I believe a flashing light means it’s not reading a sensor.
