94 ranger 2.3 4cyl

i changed the fuel pump on my 94 ranger 2.3 it will start , but it mostly just coughs and wants to die, can eventualy get it to pick up RPMs but then it justs starts to cough and stall out again, anybody have an idea whats the problem

let me add, i changed out the pump because it stopped working, truck ran fine before, i only replaced the pump and not the whole sending unit

any possibility the new pump is bad, i can hear it running

Did you also change the sock (strainer) on the pump. If you did not this might be your problem. The old one might be clogged. Most pumps when you buy them they will not warranty the pump unless you replace the sock to.

Also did you put a new fuel filter on to.

pulled the new pump out and installed another, she started right up and no problems
