94 b4000 axle swap/offroad build

Caterpillar%20mining%20truck.jpg

i want tires like that on my truck, i wonder how much lift i need. maybe some more power too hahaha

I thought you were talkin bout the military OZ's on the red chev till the pic loaded.

Trucks looks good. I would try to put a swap bar on it with quick disconnects for safty, donig a three wheel lean cant be a good thing. But the coil have to break in too.

Now you need to change your advitar picture.

How much was it to have the Chevy springs re-arched to fit your truck and did they bolt dirrectly in? I'm seeing what is the cheapest way to lift the rear of my truck up when I finally am able to do my swap. Wish I was able to do a long arm set-up, but those are expensive, so a 4-link is the way I have to go.

you really have to try and get it to do the lean...
a sway bar is definately in line but im more concerned with gears and bearings first.

the springs cost me 100$ allready arched. i had to move the front hanger forward as described in all the threads about the 63'' spring swap. for the shackle i made my own using 4 shackles 2 chevy's and 2 ranger's its i bolted then together and plated the entire back with 1/4 inch plate. then i ran a sprip of angle down each side welding it as well. seems to work out good you can definately tell it flexes a ton more in the rear she squats pretty good on hard acceleration.

luckly i dont HAVE to drive this truck. it does great for short trips to the store and to the trail's but i dont think i would want to take it on any kinda of a long trip. or drive it any kind of distance daily.

How are the coil springs sitting now? I'm doing a dana 30 swap also on a 96 ranger super cab with a 4.0L

definately some angle to them not in or out but the top of the coil is leaning twords the back of the truck. it rides close to factory with these coils. little bit more stiff but still pretty good

So they are angled back? Was that to get the wheel centered in the wheel well. How much of an angle would you say.

yeah that puts the tire centered. i'll get a pic of the angle but i wouldnt say too severe. a shorter coil might make it a steeper angle tho. may want to consider some weld on coil buckets for the axle or opting for the EB frame buckets if you are going with a shorter coil

NOTE TO SELF: triple check other ppl's work when it is on your truck.

jam nuts tightened the wrong direction. bolts torqued down but only because they ran out of thread. no nuts on bolts or rattled off.

most of the unfinished area's were critical, guess it's my fault but workin with people you trust normally I dont question their work, but i will start doing so.

Thats what I was wanting to know is if you did the 63 inch chevy leaf swap or had them re-arched to fit the rangers hanger locations.

An 8 inch shackle????? I'm told thats a no no and could put un-wanted leverage on parts and do some weird stuff.

Yes ALWAYS check other peoples work done to your vehicles.

the chev shackles are a tad shorter, and soo far soo good everything seems to work fine i did cycle the suspension quite a bit checkin everything out and other than squatin on HARD acceleration works like normal. no axle hop springs dont really even "S" wrap that bad. from the short amount of experience i have with this set up i dont see a reasone to change it. pinion angle is stellar and with the long leaves and long shackles the flex is great.

not sayin it's the best way to go but it works. the shackle measures 7 1/4'' eye to eye. other than cuttin off the shock mounts and movin to the top of the axle and movin the bake hose hanger to the center crossmember everything else lines up great.

first time i got the truck stuck. not that i didnt think it would ever happen

it was worse then i've ever been stuck or seen anyone stuck. only took 6 hours to get out. the more we tried to move the truck the more she went down. and there was NO bottom. at the worst point i had 4 inches of water in the cab and was walkin around in about 10 inches of water. the axles were roughly 18 inches under the sand/mud . I thought the ground would still be frozen for sure.

workin on cleanin EVERYTHING STILL what a P.I.T.A.. but my drive shafts and yoke's are all shiney now.

Hopefully I can get the pics uploaded off the cell tomorrow, and get em submitted to petersons as well.

Luckly your computer or other electronics didnt get toasted by the water. Well safe to say the TTB would have never let you even think about such a mud hole like the one you got stuck in. You would have been up to your neck!!!!!!

Train Turbo'ed 7.3, with 9.58 gears.

how does your steering work? Does it have any bump steer the way you have it??
I started my swap and the jeep steering that i have sucks. Cant get it to work. Was thinking of making my own similar to yours.
