Parts of the original air intake are missing on this truck.
The intake behind the front grill, the hose connection and vacuum motor/ damper that diverts the hot air off the manifold is also missing.

Basically, all I have is the big rubber tube going from the top of the air cleaner box into the throttle body. The vacuum hose connections on the top of the vacuum filter box are also disconnected.

I'm not a big believer in bolt on horsepower, K&N whatever. It just seems to me the original setup was pretty well-designed.

My questions are;
Does this affect performance, and or gas mileage?

Should I put it back together as original?

Or just leave it as is?

As far as I have read the stock air cleaner system, a cold air intake, on the 4.0l provides max air flow

Dyno tests I have seen, not for 4.0l, showed no change, or LOSS of power adding 3rd partly systems

None increased power over a factory cold air intake system

The pre-heated air valve does help in very cold climates, but not required in any climate.
The "sensor" on the air filter box opens and closes that pre-heated air valve by reading temp of air in the air box.
Basically its a bi-metal valve, so not powered, and it sends vacuum to the pre-heated air valve when it is cold.

Intake vacuum----------air filter sensor----------------pre-heated air valve

---------- are vacuum lines

There is no IN/OUT on the sensor, its just a vacuum valve, so works with hoses on either way
