Have a 94 ranger 3.0 2wd with a M5R1 transmission, shafts damaged from ground up bearings. I understand that the transmission housings are different for 2.3 and 3.0 engines but are the internals the same ? I read that the gear ratios are the same as well as the replacement bearing kit and other internal parts. Would it be possible just to transfer all the internals from a 1994 2.3 driven trans to my good 3.0 driven trans housing ? (I can get the 2.3 driven trans cheap)
Or try another solution.

Yes, they had the same ratios and same internals.
But year matters as well so look up rebuild kits and see what years fit what kit

But if both are 1994's then shouldn't be any issues

the year break is '92 if I remember correctly, and the differences are in the 5th gear (maybe it is reverse...) synchro teeth I think, less teeth on the newer ones. That and the slave cylinder changed then as well...
