Transmission
Automatic
I pulled the engine out of my ranger and left the transmission on(automatic). I got a replacement engine from the wrecking yard (it was a 4.0l from a 91 explorer) put the transmision on the other engine and put it back in the truck. I have tried to start the truck and it is acting like the truck is in gear because I get no clicking on the starter nothing happens. I jacked the back end up and the wheels move freely in both directions. The shifter on the column is in the park position but will not move. I put the rear end back on the ground and tried to move the truck It would not move it appears that the drive is bound up somehow. What can I do to figure out what the problem is.

Sounds like 2 problems. Try to turn the engine over with a socket, see if it moves.

Yes ?? Check your grounds and battery terminals .

No ?? pull the trans out and seat the converter in the trans.
