Hello everyone I recently got a 94 Ranger Ext. Cab with a 4.0L V6. The thermostat is sticking so I bought a new one from the parts store. They gave me a 54mm thermostat however I cant seem to get it to fit into the housing. The thermostat that was in there was a 52mm. Everything I read online says 54mm. So I'm asking for your help. Do I just need to push a little harder or did do I need to go back and pick up a 52mm thermostat?

Thank for your help.

Never ran into that problem, rubber O-ring needs to be installed on t-stat.
T-stat needs to be 190 to 195degF

Same size has been used since 1986 up to 2000 for all the 2.9l's and 4.0l OHV's in Rangers, Explorers and Aerostars

Not sure if the Ford 4.0l SOHC engine used a different size, t-stat housing is much different so I would think so, maybe parts guy assumed 4.0l is 4.0l, which, of course, it isn't :)

My 94 has the 4 cylinder 2.3 and the housing on it is supposed to be replaced with the thermostat which I'm glad I did but no clue on the 4.0. It's possible that the wrong part got put back in the box, happened to me. Go back with the thermostat and the housing.
