Ok guys, im really hoping yall can help me out. I have an 89 B2 with the 2.9/A4LD stock setup.

I have a donor A4LD and T-case from a 94 Explorer I want to put in, but before I get ahead of myself I want to make sure it is a bolt in swap. I have the Explorer front drive shaft as well if that makes any difference.

I guess what I need to know is what will I need from each vehicle to make this work and is there any advantage to using the 4.0L t-case? If not then I will split them and use my 2.9 t-case.

Thank yall so much in advance!

1989 will have the BW1350 transfercase
1990 and up BW1354 transfercase

BW1350, if working OK, would be what you want to keep in the B2 it will work fine with 4.0l power, and no drive shaft changes

'94 BW1354 will have the 6 gear planetary setup, '93 and earlier 4 gear, like BW1350, so technically a stronger t-case, but..............planetary setup didn't fail in these, 4 or 6 gear

Yes, '89 and '94 A4LD had same two solenoids, TCC and 3/4 shift, controlled by computer so swapable
2.9l and 4.0l used same block so same trans bolt pattern

Thank you very much! My 1350 has never given me any sort of problem so I will mate it to the new trans and hold on to the 1354 for when I get around to a D35 swap.

I was honestly unaware that the 2.9 and 4.0 used the same block. I guess I just assumed thats where the extra displacement came from.
