Yes, it will bolt to the '97 trans, but..............
1994 used a 6 bolt flywheel, 1997 was first year of the 8 bolt, so get the flywheel with the '94 engine.
You will need to swap upper and lower intake manifolds, that is to use existing sensor wiring, '94 was last year of OBD1 so will have a different sensor lay out than '97
1994 may or may not have a Cam Position sensor, Calif engines did, but '97 will have/need one, so you need to swap that over to the '94, '94 will have just an oil pump drive under a plug at the CPS location.
Also if there is an EGR system on the '97 then it needs to be swapped over to the '94, but if using the same exhaust and swapping intakes then that should be plug and play
I cracked the heads on my 97 4.0 and my friend swapped a 94 4.0 motor into it for me but now it idles funny in teverse sometimes just stalls also when i drive if the rpms go over 2,000 it starts jumping and sputtering any ideas?
