brought a 94 ranger 2.3 at an auction. it ran good thru the auction paid for it got keys it started up fine. pull over to my buddies car to get some tape to put the temp tag in the window, wouldn't start. messed w/ it for a few minutes(15-20) went to autozone got a compression tester it was about 125psi. check to see if i had spark and fuel both good. put back together it had a bit rough start but did start. drove 50miles home (buddies house) ran good (65-75mph no missing) no overheating, good oil pressure, good charge, good A/C. get it home (buddies house) wont start try again in morning. i'm thinking camshaft senor. any thought are welcomed.

lesson: when buying a car at the auction WATCH THEM START IT.

i know i'm getting fuel. now at the proper rate is another thing. will check. but off hand don't think this is the problem.

any more thoughts

list
1. check fuel pressure
2. check fuel regulator
3. check vacuum lines

pull trouble codes before throwing a bunch of money at it, on a '94 all you need is a paper clip and pen and paper... go HERE and follow the analog volt meter method but skip the volt meter and just connect the paper clip or whatever you find then go sit in the drivers seat with a pen and paper and count the flashes of the check engine light.

seems what codes were there are not any more. vacuum line from throttle body to canister was bad, i replaced. seems to start cold but not hot. got 8 plugs will do that soon. any ideas?

1 170psi
2 180psi
3 175psi
4 175psi

fuel pressure about 40psi

seems the vacuum leak caused a rich condition.
plugs were carbon fouled and improperly gap.
new plugs/wires
new coil packs
she is still starting a little rough but on demand
maybe a egr or some other sensor.
ideas
