I have 150K on my 94 2.3L Ranger. It has been running rough on and off for the last month or so. It acts like it's going to die, back fires, like it's not getting spark.

Spark plugs were changed 5K miles ago.

Ran a bottle of Chevron Techron through it. It cleared up. Now I'm on my next tank of gas and it's running rough again.

I had a old mercedes that hated an ethanol blend. It wanted 100% gasoline. Could part of our collective 2.3L problems be that this engine doesn't like 10% ethanol? Everything is a little older and the gas blend is enough to bring the problem to light. I would think it's a modern engine and it should be able to handle it.

Thoughts?

Its hard to imagine that its the ethanol. At 10%, the engine should not even notice it.

Have you checked the EGR valve? My Ranger torched one after only 30k miles and it made it idle rough. My second EGR is still rockin' after 120k. :headbang:
