I have a 93 4.0 ohv engine out of a ranger that I want to put into a 99 4.0 ohv explorer... want to see if everything will work?? I know some of the sensors and stuff I have to trade out but where I am having trouble or uncertainty lies in the flex plate... I know they are the same diameter and number of teeth but the bolt pattern is the same, but want to see if a 99 torque converter will fit on a 93 flex plate... any help would be much appreciated.. thanx

Yes, It will fit fine.

Actually, You need to check and see if the motor mounts will bolt up...Ford added bosses as years progressed, but didn't take them away. You 93 may not have the provisions to bolt the 99 motor mount to the block...Everything else will bolt up (basically just an intake swap is all you need with the sensors/electronics)

Your right. The 99 mounts wont line up with the holes in the 93 block.
Only 1 of the 3 bolt holes on the pass side will line up. There isnt enough room for the mount to be drilled for the other 2. I made an adapter plate that bolts to the block with 5 bolts (4 into the block and 1 through the mount into the block) and is drilled for the other 2 mount bolts. It was very simple, Let me try to find some pics.
On the drivers side 2 of the 3 will line up, but you can just drill the mount for a 3rd bolt.

In the second pic, you can see the 2 nuts tacked onto the back of the plate. Thats where the newer block has mounting bosses that the older block doesnt have.
