93 Splash in SC, V8-Swap version

Cam synchronizer has now been replaced on the 5.0l. CEL is cleared. Saw the Ford logo on the old synchro body. Probably the original at 251,000+ miles. The gear teeth looked fine. Upper bushing shot and squeaky when I turn it by hand.

The tab that activates the sensor was broken off and rattling around in the cavity.

That blob of rubbery, rusty crap in my hand was rolling around in there with the broken tab.

That would definitely cause a cam sensor code :)

Oooooh... Nice!

I was wondering why the other thread got locked up.. what a glorious answer to that question.

Thanks for that, now I understand how it works better... This is really the next thing I need to do to my '90 Ranger, the body bushings especially the front are shot... honestly I don't know why the bed body lines line up... you can feel the cab hitting the frame offroad...

Mine was only slightly off and by the time I got to it I really only had one bushing still there.

i would build the explorer.

i would build the explorer.
If it was in better condition, I would have considered it more seriously. But it's not. It's a great candidate to tear apart. It's the second worst shitbox I have ever owned. Actually, if budget were no concern, i would move forward with my current project. Then use the remains of the Explorer to build an ORV park bastard. 5.3l LS, 6L80E, SAS, 44's, lockers, coilovers, external cage. Yup. I'd love to build that dog, too.

Just do the pickup conversion with easy access bed.

The adventure begins.

Up on jack stands and ramps so I can get under it.

While the fuel is pumping, we begin to "disassemble Stephanie"
Extra points for anyone who gets the movie reference.

80s movie with Ally Sheedy. I can't remember if she was Stephanie or the robot. All I remember is I saw the movie at a drive in theater.
