93 Regular cab 2wd 351 swap coil springs

What's everyone using for front springs to hold up the weight of a V8? The truck had lowering front control arms when I bought it and had been built as a drag truck with a 302 that I sincerely hope was never raced based on the shoddy workmanship I found. I think I can live with the lowered suspension but I need more spring to get the camber within reason. I'm thinking 2wd supercab springs for a v6 with a/c would be the stiffest option. Opinions. please.

Explorer or ext cab plow coils...or a 2 over.

When I did my V8 I did exactly what you're thinking... extended cab V6 w air coils... and it worked well on my standard cab.

That said... I have new in the box MOOG CC870 coils and a set of energy suspension spring isolaters that I have no plan for currently.

I used belltech 2inch drop springs in the front i just need the sway bar and it should work even better

A 1993 Ranger won't have control arms...

Check the classifieds for coil springs.

OK, I beams or traction beams if it was a 4x4. Being aftermarket pieces they're not I beams, they're tubular.

Once you find Moog's part number for any stock Ranger coil, you can go on Moog's master list and find every coil they make, with dimensions and load ratings. Doesn't give applications, but that doesn't matter. As you go up in spring rate, you can come down in installed height, or if you start talk and trim, the more you cut the more you'll increase the effective rate.

Thanks, that's good info. The Ford parts listing used to list load ratings but they stopped, I think because they consider it sacrilege to modify a vehicle

I checked moogs site and couldn't come up with a master list. Do you have a link?

Hey guys, been doin the research lately and found the Moog CC866 is rated at 1650lbs. Stock V6 springs are 1447lbs. This works for my Cleveland transplant, they are each about 200lbs. heavier than stock. Then I called O'Reilly's to order and they no longer do Moog! They now carry
Precision brand (prob. same unit, new sticker, more money!) Anyway new numbers are Precision #SP08175Pre (1650lb) or SP08154Pre (1447lb.)

If the coils don't give the support you need, adjustable air shocks might help. I used them on my ranger for a couple years because of the extra weight before I swapped to air bags. They helped a lot with stability, but I was still using stock coil springs at the time.

I used the 1447lb springs with some stiff Gabriel shocks on mine and it actually sits a little high but I assume it'll come down some after a while. It's a 351 W with cast iron manifolds and a C4.
