Anybody have a real solution to this PITA
Once again smog time .....at least now I know to check this before smog man gives me the bad news.....

So how about two hoses like many other vehicles have ?
Simple enough at the top side but the tank end Tank end ????
Need a plug with two fittings one for gas one for vent.....

Either that or I am cutting a hole in my bed and putting the filler cap right on the tank.....Of course in the PRK it would fail because it is a modification to the sacred factory system... :thefinger:

Anybody else ? Is copper fittings and gas a bad thing?
So i need a 2 inch piece of fuel resistant hose that fits the tank 2 90 degree fittings , one of those the size of the stock inside hose and a plug to solder those to.....( strange that the inside one is actually fuel proof )
Mod a old filler neck ( I have 3 of those now :icon_rofl:) to a filler plus a vent hose on the bottom to direct any dribble....

I feel your pain.

when mine was going bad (filling up the tank always involved gas puddling under the truck) I looked to ford and they wanted almost 400 bucks for the hose assembly. Insane.

Turned to fleabay, picked one up for 40 bucks. Not too shabby, then pulled the bed and swapped it out. should take you about an hour to pull the bed, swap out the filler neck, and slap the bed back on. (you will need a helper to lift the bed, or a shop crane/engine hoist to do it yourself)I think I spent more time removing the bedliner than I did removing the bed...

you don't want to use rigid material for the outer filler hose, as the bed will flex and this will also be noted by one of the KGB agents that inspect your truck. the fleabay one will serve purpose quite nicely. Even if it lasts only a few years, I figure it is worth the 40 bucks.

I know there are companies repoppin them, I have a contact for them, only for a fleetside, haven't seen any for flareside.

PM for my source info.

Once again have one ordered ...will be here next week ... Cheapy ebay better than the ford rip off...
Still want to make a two hose setup,,,think I can hide the new vent hose inside of the old cracked 2" one... at least as far back as they could see :icon_idea:

Even thought of plugging solid one of my old ones for the test..... Its full now ..then really fix it when the weather is better.... :icon_hornsup:

On the pulling the bed.... a hour my ass breaker bar a little electric impact 5 minutes 15 minutes tops ....Ive got practice :annoyed:

lol and practice makes perfect! my hour was for the entire job from start to finish... but yeah the correct tools make the difference :) I did mine with only an 18" breaker bar and 1/2 inch drive ratchet. I believe I had mine off in about 20- 25 minutes, first time I ever did it. I did spend another 20 minutes fighting with the bedliner to get it out without breaking it.

My 99 stepside has two hoses. I replaced them with generic fuel hose with no problems. I am happy not to have the hose inside a hose setup.

OK so the 99 step side has 2 hoses.
Have you seen the fittings on the tank ? Of course I would bet they changed the tank design by then....
