My brother recently took out his 2.9v6 out of a 87 and put in a 5.0...the 2.9 recently was rebuilt and had the revised heads put on it and has a the m5 transmission on it...I have 2 93 rangers with the 2.3l one runs great other one had 383k on it and spun a bearing..anyone know what it would take to put the 2.9 in the 93 that's already manual trans?

Engine, trans, wiring/computer, exhaust, fuel lines. The usual.

Check local and state laws. You may have issues legally. Many places, even without safety or emissions checks, have laws against putting an older engine in a newer vehicle. 92 was the last year for the 2.9.

No laws here...I have a 98 jeep xj with a 350 carbed Chevy but thank you much for the lay out when I do a swap it's usually carburetor not fuel injected...was hoping I can the stock gauge in the 90 for the swap and then figure out the motor mounts

For the motor mounts, the 2.9 ones will bolt to your 2.3's cross member. :icon_thumby:

The wiring harness setup is different between an '87 and '93. The '93 will have a large plug on the drivers side firewall. The '87 doesn't have this plug so you'll probably have to do quite a bit of splicing.

Ok I will grab a couple Chilton books and see if I can't figure this out be cool if I could make it all work would have been easier probably if mine would have been v6 from gate

If it were me id see if i could just get the 2.9 harness/ecu from the donor truck and just use it on your 93, rather then trying to adapt the 2.3 harness to the 2.9.

As far as the gauges, a harness from a 89-92 2.9 might be a plug and play, seeing as how the dash didnt change from 89-94.

Well that's good news I know where one is being parted out thanks!
