The problem I have... As you all may know there are a lot of pages and threads debating clutch and electric fan's, my question is what should I do in terms of my ranger overheating I live in New Mexico where an average day is ~100°F and I have a delivery job so it's a lot of stop and go also sitting at lights for a long time. When I do work I notice the temp gauge goes to the high-end and it's not cooling that well. So I am asking where should I start I have already swapped to a lower temp thermostat it did not really help as I still sit at 4-5 lights within a couple hundred feet for 2-6 minutes. So should I do an e-fan swap or what should I do a bigger radiator?

Is your truck a Manual or Automatic? If it's a manual, it likely has a single row radiator. You could replace this with one from an Automatic that has two rows and that'll help.

Have you checked the actual temperature of the coolant? Sometimes the factory gauges are not all that accurate. Your engine should run at about 200 degrees. Sometimes that is at the O in NORMAL and sometimes it's at the A.

Has it actually overheated and started spitting coolant out of the reservoir?

You could replace this with one from an Automatic that has two rows and that'll help.

See that? Must be what is going on with my 94 can't get it to warm up! LOL
It's a manual 4.0 4wd and the rad has trans cooler line connections.

Has it actually overheated and started spitting coolant out of the reservoir?

Sorry for not giving more specs is a Manual. Is there a year range that you would recommend for the radiator?

No never really thought of that or looked into that and I know the gauges are not always best fuel says it's very full when I top it off. For my pickup is normally runs on N and O depending on the day.

And yes it has over heated before had to get the head gasket replaced and redo the head, So I am trying to avoid that happening again.

If it starts to overheat when idling or sitting at a traffic light it's almost always the fan clutch on my 93 long bed we put a extreme duty fan clutch design for towing heavy loads it's the best thing that ever happened to the truck the thing I like most is the sounds like a Jeep when it starts out in the morning with the fan but it quiets down shortly after. It's a lot cheaper than a new radiator and a lot less work unless it's Jammed stuck like it was on my 94.

OK I will have to look into that is there any brand that you would recommend or anything to that nature and I understand how hard ford rangers can be had to take off my bed last week so I could replace my filler neck.

agree with these guys


fresh fan blade and clutch if your clutch tests weak.... you may have build up of scale in the system...a professional flush is sometimes the best solution for that.
