Ok so I've got everything back together and it does run, however was having issues not shifting. So i checked and when you shift at the column it was moving it down at the linkage in the engine compartment, checked and the line had been broke. So i swapped the line from the linkage to the trans with the good one from the parts vehicle adjusted accordingly, but its still having issues. I double checked and with the line connected at the linkage the column shifter no longer moves it.
Now what i had done previously was switched columns because it had a bad ignition rod according to the previous owner, and when i did that i think it damaged the shift tube enough that with the added pressure causes the tubes to just slide. Does anyone know how i would fix this? I'm at wits end and need this vehicle to drive to out of state for work this summer

Ok so i was right there seems to be 2 plastic bits that hold it together normally and i broke them. I did get "fixed" by using a cutting disc and cutting out part if the column and using 2 self tapping screws to screw the 2 pipes back together, trick is using short screws that won't interfer with the steering shaft.
