i have a 1986 ranger that has a 2.9 in it and so i bought a 93' explorer to swap out the 4.0 does any one know what i have to bring with the 4.0 and it is a 4x4

Everything, it's alot easier when you have the entire truck to pull what you need out of...

4.0ltr engine swap

Engine, wiring harness, computer, radiator(optional), starter, block plate, flywheel, clutch or converter and exhaust manifolds are required from your Exploder. Motor mounts and transmission will bolt up to 4.0ltr. If you have a 5 speed the clutch master and slave cylinders will have to be switched, auto I'm not sure about but I think everything fits as is. 1993-94 wiring harness' has ABS, your truck doesn't. I used a 93 engine and a 91 wiring harness.(no ABS) 1993 engine compartment harness to motor harness is 2 square connections and the 91 has a square and a round connection. (maybe vice-versa cant remember- not relevant) I removed engine harness from 93 and replaced with engine harness from a 91- problem solved. Allan D a tech support dude on here tells me the fuel injectors and computer from a 91 and a 93 run on a difference impedance and my truck shouldn't run at all. Hah! He is full of s#*t! I did this swap almost a year ago, run 35" m/t's with stock 3.73 gears and get 450km to a tank of fuel. A friend of mine did this EXACT swap almost 3 years ago and he has had no issues either! Everywhere I unplugged my 2.9ltr engine compartment harness, the 4.0ltr harness clipped right back into! I'm electrically illiterate and this was a pretty easy swap, no cutting or splicing at all!!! If you have anymore questions I'm happy to answer, I have a couple pics from when I did mine I could email if needed. Good luck, Jamie.
