I have some bulbs out behind my gauges in the 93' ranger.

Anyone know what bulbs to replace them with? I would just rather pick em up before I do the project than tear the gauge down rebuild it then remove again after I get the bulbs.

Thanks,
Vince

and theres 5 of them. id replace them all since the cluster is kind of a pain to remove and the bulbs are cheap.

There's more than 5 in there (at least 12 including the indicator lights, maybe 15, give-take a few).

I know I saw LED replacement bulbs somewhere on here. Let me know if you wan the link, I'll try and dig it up.

junkie, i was just talking about the backlighting lights...there are 5 of those, along with no more than 12 indicator lights (depending on your trucks optional features).

there are LEDs that will directly replace 194 bulbs (they have the same base, with a built in resistor and an LED or 3 on top). they are more spendy than incandescent bulbs, but they last just about forever...which means you probably wont ever have to tear the dash apart again to replace bulbs.

I count 19 bulbs but I don't think I need them all. I have the unit apart but I think I broke my speedo cable clip in the act.

I am going to wait a few days to re-install because I just bought a new cluster from ebay from a explorer sport with white face gauges. I'm hoping it's nice and I'll slide that one in.

As far as the LED light replacement, can I use the LEDs to change the colors? Or is it a pull the needles off and scrape paint kind of thing? I saw in the later (95+) rangers you have to scrape paint, but I can't find anything on 94'-.

Thanks,
Vince

wow 19 bulbs? mine only has sockets for 17...:dunno:

the 194 LED replacements come in a variety of colors. if memory serves (someone correct me if im wrong), our gauges get their green color from a green sheet of plastic behind the gauges. to change the color, one would have to pull this sheet out and install the colored LEDs.

If it's just a green sheet behind the dials that would be sweet.

I'm going to see how this sport gauge looks then decide what cluster to experiment with. I don't want to go crazy but I love learning about these trucks!:drool:
