i have a 93 ranger 4.0 manual trans and i want to swap in a 4.0 from a 97 explorer and auto transmision. what would i need to do to make this swap work
thanks
You'll need to basically take the everything from the engine compartment of the 97 explorer and swap it over to your truck.
Plus ou'll need the exhaust(at least to the catalytic convertor), need to find a way to adapt the evap system, and pcm of coarse.
Then, good luck when it comes to the plug on the fire wall. Lots of splicing. As the earlier Rangers use a round plug and the later Rangers and explorers use a more rectangle plug.
There is just alot of differences between the OBD-I 93-94 Rangers, and the later 95-97 Rangers and Explorers. They changed alot of stuff.
EVAP - Emmisions system. PCM - Powertrain Control Module. Before ya do it price the swap. You may be better off with a 5.0 swap. The 94 to 97 can be done if you research it carefully.
The '97 auto trans is either a 4R55E or a 5R55E and either one requires EEC5 to operate if you want to do motre that toodle around a parking lot at <20mph.
Rewiring your '93 truck to EEc5 is ne of those things that
fits int a catagory of: "if you gotta ask you don't want wanna know"
Frankly it's technically no different from swapping in a 1998-01 4.0SOHC engine.
If you wanna beat yourself up there are less painful ways to do it.
