the freeze plug towards the rear of the motor on the right hand side has blown out. i put a new one in and i guess i didnt get it seated right so it blew it out. i cant get a socket on there flush to tap the plug into the hole. the coil bucket is in the way. any advice to get something flush in there to get the plug to seat properly?

Did you try one of those expanding plugs that you tighten with a wrench? Sometimes they are the only fix for a hard to reach freeze plug.

no i have not. i think that might be my next try. i put another one in and well it help for 1min and 30seconds:annoyed:

I have several engines running with the expanding plugs in them that have been in there for several years. Make sure the block is real clean and dry when you insert the plug and it should stay in there a long time.

im hopein your right:icon_thumby:

There are two distinct kinds of "expanding" plugs.

The common (cheap) one is the rubber plug

The next kind is the Dorman copper plug where both halves
are copper and kinda dome shaped, tightening the nut flattens both
domes and expands the plug to seal the hole.

There is also a third kind, the kind your ford dealer would use.
It's steel and sealed with an O-ring and a screw that tightens
via a screw and a crossbar.

Personally I like the Dorman Copper ones, but they are more expensive

well i put one in, got the nut tight. pour half water in it. no leaks. start it and fill it with water. no leaks. run it for 4 mins and pop splash. it blew the rubber plug out again

So you are gonna clean it up real good and install it again...right? Remember a small amount of oil or sludge will go a long way in this instance...

i popped the plug again. im done. im not playing anymore

Ok, time for the thumb screws...

you "put one in"... One what?

WHAT KIND OF PLUG ARE YOU HAVING A PROBLEM WITH???

If you are running the rubber kind they will often blow out.

i used a brass one 1st. it blew out. i used 2 diffrent OEM ones, they failed. i used 2 rubber ones and they failed

i put a new t-stat in and had it idle. it didnt leak just took it for a drive around the naghborhood and it was doing good till i hi the corner. it spit the lower edge of the plug out. im guessing i didnt have a good enough seal......im going to try it one more time. any tips?

after the t-sat it did alot better

All I can think of is you aren't getting the plugs in straight to start.. You need to assure yourself the plugs are seated in the space provided and they are NOT at an angle in the hole.. Also make sure NOT to use any sealant! If you do they will pop out every time.
