Having possible gearing issues, poor acceleration along with never getting close to needing 5th at highway speeds. I haven't drove another 3.0 4x4 like mine before, but it seems very high geared and cannot seem to figure out why. plan on buying 4.56s in the near future, does anyone have any insight on what this could be? trans seems to be original along with diff. was told gearing was changed by previous owner but dont know what was changed. axle tag matches gears and trans code matches. Could it possibly just be a gutless pig??

How far off is the speedometer from a GPS or other speed checking method? That'll get you an idea on what gears are in it now or you could jack it up and turn the driveline enough turns to rotate the tires once which will also get you there...

Not being able to use 5th pretty much points to being too tall geared, the 3.0L needs some rpm...

Dumb question, but was that box on the roof when you were driving it down the highway? You'd think the 3.0 would still have plenty for 5th gear but that's going to drain off some horsepower being that shape in that spot.

What size tires are on there? They look big. Tire size and aerodynamics (from the cargo box and the lift) play a big factor.

The 3.0l is built with it's peak power and torque at high rom, around 3500. In stick configuration, it's usually OK. But your truck needs 4.56 gears. Is it auto or manual transmission?

I should have added; I drive a 3.0l Ranger. 6" lift, 35" tires. I have 4.56 gears and still rarely use 5th gear. Just rev it out and drive.

It’s always been like this that don’t really notice with it lol

Good to know. 31s but have no power off the line and hard to get going from a stop. Previous owner said shorter gears were put in so bought 4:10s and found out it still has 4:10s in it. Going with 4:56s now. How is yours with them

At the bottom of the comment, you may see 3 dots and a down arrow. This is a pull-down menu. I believe you should have options to edit or delete your own comments.

I most cases, we discourage deleting them unless there us a serious problem. Missing comments break up the continuity of the thread or remove info that someone else may find useful.

It really shouldn't be too bad with 4.10 gears. It probably came with 3.73 gears. I believe some with automatics came with 3.55 gears. This chart may help you figure out what you want.

how’s your mpg. I’m getting 12 and it’s a dog lol. Motor runs great just feels really high geared.

Still getting a hang of how the forum flows and screwed up. Tried to clear it up

the truck looks pretty empty in the picture or it has beefed up springs.

that ladder rack and topper add weight but not enough to kill it from a dead stop. i would still consider it empty.

if you have 1500 pounds of tools on top of that though ... then that is probably the problem ....

are you absolutely sure it has 4.10 gears... because that should be perfect.

is the rear diff heating up? does it have a hanger bearing?

seen those bind up on accel before
