New Year's Eve I bought a 92,reg cab,2.3,5spd,2wd,jacked up like a 4x4,with 235 70 r15 tires showing 83k miles(originally from California) with mint body, frame and drive-train (I hope). The registration shows an odometer reading of 150,000 (miles?) when the previous owner registered it in Nova Scotia (from BC) on year ago.The reading is now 83k miles. The interior looks like Wolvarines had a big fight in it.I'm looking for another truck for parts and maybe yet another as a winter beater.I had to use 3rd gear coming over the mountain. It only went in 5th going down the mountain.I burned less than $20oo of gas over a distance of about 110 miles.I'm thinking of 410? dif gears??Any suggestions to improve power would be great. Thanks :icon_thumby:

Well, I'm not sure how to get more power out of a 4-banger. 4.10s will help, but it's still only a 4-banger.

I recommend consulting with ones Red and Harold Green. They may have insights that the rest of us have over looked.

Love your avatar BTW.

Thanks. The 2.3 doesn't give ya much to work with does it.Mr Green said I should make a 'ram air scoup' out of a bath tub and duct tape, lol. Here's a very interesting link I stumbled accross. Getting the Most out of your Ford 2.3L .Could be a stiky??:icon_thumby:

No, that should not be a sticky! most of it is useless... the larger injectors won't do anything for power... for more fuel to make more power there has to be more air and on a 2.3 the only way to get more air is either forced induction (turbo or supercharger) or modifying the cylinder head.

instead of listening to that site, go to the 2.3 forum here and read, read, and read some more, there's a lot of info to be had, any questions just ask.

the best way to get more power out of a 2.3 is to simply drive in the power band, most people don't. Shift at 5000rpm instead of 3000, cruise at 2500-3000 instead of 2000.

lol, its always amusing how people LOVE to lag there engines all the time, the engine likes its power band, its like its happy place, u dont want ur engine to be pissed at u

driving a 2.3 then a 4.0 is a weird feeling... the power curve on the 4.0 is WAY lower than a 2.3, you can drive a 4.0 at 35mph in 5th gear and be fine where a 2.3 will laugh at you. Even my 2.3 turbo and the 4.0 I have are way different with the same amount of HP.

So you're saying it is meant to be driven at high RPM?You guys seem to know what you are talking about.Did you notice that I mentioned 235X15 tires as opposed to factory 195x14?I'll try the higher RPM,kinda like a 2 stroke bike. Thanks

whoa... been there, not the best combo, you need to change gear ratios in the rear axle or you'll kill clutches quick. you most likely have 3.08:1 gears since that's the tire size that came on my truck with 3.08's. 3.73:1 or 4.10 are better ratios for the tires you're running...

Thanks Scott. That's what my buddy thought also(308's).I've got an add on Kijiji for a parts truck.(Crag's list is very slow catching on here.)We were thinking 410's.Now I need to find what seats will fit without hitting the back window.
