So i just bought 92 ranger ext cab xlt 4x4 4.0 and 5 speed. Already did some work to it. I put new hubs and disc pads. Had one wheel bearing out and one rotor bad so just did all of both sides. Only left i find wrong is it has a vibration above 45 mph. Feels like u joint because vibration dampens if let off gas or push clutch in. Checked all u joints there tight no slop. Looks like carrier bearing has crack but still seems good cant get it too move. I just put new 31x10.5 maxxis bighorns on it and thats when i really noticed it, but still had vibration before just not as bad. Old tires 31x10.5 also but cheap all season tread. You guys have any ideas?

Are your axle shafts in phase? If you don't have your u-joints lined up perfectly when you put the long side shaft slip back together that would cause a wicked vibration, same thing goes for both driveshafts. However u-joints and front shaft would only come into play if you're in 4wd or the hubs are locked, if thats not the case then you're looking for a different culprit. If your hubs were locked or t-case engaged, try it without and that will tell you if its shaft related or not.

Also, make sure that your wheels aren't bent, and that they're balanced. Highway-speed vibration tells me that it's wheel related. Are the wheels aluminum, or steel? Believe it or not, steel wheels get out of spec easier than aluminum ones do.

Hubs not locked and dont think its the wheels because goes away when let off gas. Will have to see if driveline is in phase. Been reading on here about one piece driveline swap. Think im going to do that if i can figure what fits my truck.

i beleive the 98s and newer have solid shafts, just grab one out of one of those. i beleive your shaft is 63"

So just went ahead and put new carrier bearing in. It took most of the vibration away. Whats left i think is just knobby tires and 20 year old truck.
