I have a 1992 Ford Ranger.two wheel drive. When I apply the parking brake then release it the rear wheels stay locked up. Even though the cable gets slack and sonds like it released! Is this because of a spring problem within the Drum???? HELP!!!

Might be a spring, might be something binding. Jack up the rear end, pull the wheels and drums and inspect for broken springs. Then have someone set and release the brake while you watch it. Look for anything binding, rubbing, etc.

If you find a bad spring go get a hardware kite, if you find something binding grab a bottle of anti-seize or white-lithium grease and lube the stick point. DON'T get it on the friction material.

I've fixed this problem on rangers more times than I can remember. The "slack is an illusion. The e-brake cable is on its way out and needs to be replaced. The cost is not too bad at 60-70$ if you replace it yourself. However, do what Adam said anyway, to prevent further issues.

cheak hardware --» cable and adjust sleeve
