92 ranger 4x4 wont move

a4ld trans ,truck wont move,but while running cant put it in park without grinding.I'm assuming trans is turning yet output shaft on transfer case doesn't turn.i have to cut engine off to get in park.Trans was rebuilt 3mos ago by diyer.Any ideas.thanks

Sounds like your transfer case is in neutral. Play with the transfer case shifter or buttons and see if it will move then. Make sure the transmission is in park before messing with the transfer case.

Set brakes, firmly block wheels, have assistant look at drive shaft while in Drive, if shaft is turning rear axle is FUBAR. If drive shaft is not turning, look at potential transfer case issues as stated above.

Thanks for the replies guys.It's my grandsons truck and it just went out all of a sudden. So yesterday I was reading in the fsm and came up with maybe the shift cable was out of adjustment.Did that and now truck will move.Pro blem now is it does't seem to shift from 2-3 or 3-4.Wondering if cable did any damage to clutch packs.
