92 F150 tranfer case lubricant

Anyone know for sure what lubricant a 92 F150 transfer case takes?I think it is a 1354(its my friends truck)so I think it should get ATF but I could be wrong.

its a bw 1356 and yes, it takes mercon atf.

It looks real close to the 1354 from what I could see.I thought it should have the atf.My friend said it had gear oil in it which is probably why its making noises!

It probably had gear oil in it to cover UP noises (thicker oil covers sins)
which were because of internal wear or damage, which the thicker oil
is now failing to do...
