92 4.0l into 91 2.9l truck?

any of you guys use the 4.0l torque damper found on 4.0l rangers at the drivers front of the motor for your swap? the explorer doesn't have it and i'm curious if it's really neccessary?

i found out its a vibration damper to keep the motor from shaking-not neccesary.

i just need to get rid of this sticker and you'd never know it was a 2.9l truck from the factory

BTW, that oval connector with the cap on it that you asked what it is?
that's the plug for the DRL module

You'll notice if you pull the cap off that there are actually shorting bars inside.

hmm,i posted a separate thread about the drl's and should have made a note here.thanks allen.

as for mileage its getting 15-18 country driving with the 15 being half a tank offroad.although when the boggers are on it gets about 12-13.

I have a 90 Nissan that I need to sell, only because it's a standard cab.
That is why I bought the white supercab.
I figured I'd get the white Ranger up and running so I can sell the Nissan.
Then while searching Craigs List I found the blue supercab 4x4.
I thought I'd fix the blue to drive, and then take my time SHOing the white.
And the cost of heads, gaskets and ect are more expensive and time consuming than a 4.0 transplant.
I have a friend with a junkyard that specializes in Fords.
So this should work out.

sounds like a good plan,let me know if i can be of any help.

its not worth messing with a 2.9l, you can get two spare 4.0l's for the price of a head job on a 2.9l.

don't get me wrong.they are a great little motor,mine had good compression,oil pressure,etc at her 200,000 mile mark hydraulic experiment and i flogged the hell out of it for 60,000 of those.

i never drove sane enough to get into the 20's mileage wise(except barely when stock,19-20 at best) so i never saw the 2.9l's only benefit over the 4.0l
