My friend has a 92 Exploder, he has 31 under a 2" Lift..
He wants more Power, but doesnt want to do a 5.0
swap.. It is his every day Roller, Plays here n there..
He just sold his Truck due to $4 per Gallon Gas Prices..

So he is prolly gonna pull his Mustang with the Ex..
How good will a 92 Auto 4.0 pull 4500 lbs??? He knows
some one that has a 97 4.0 with 50k on the Motor..

He Wants to know what Has to be Swaped over..
Motor (Intake, Injectors) only?? Does he need to
swap computers n a ton of other stuff?? Also Will
The motor/trans just bolt up?? What about the
motor mounts?? Wireing the Same from 92 to 97??

Thanx,
Rob

The first thing I would do is to check into what his gear ratio is.. GEARS make all the difference. He may have very tall gears and the engine is lugging from low rpm's with the 31" tires. A nice set of 4"11 gears would run real good with the 4.0 engine. Or even 4:56 gears for even more power.
Changing engines and keeping a tall set of gears will do little for the towing power. Towing is all about gearing, keeping the rpm at a maximum is what towing is all about.

I know about the Gearing thing.. I have a 82 2500 with a 350 n 44s..
I know.. He just wants more power to start with.. He wants to go
bigger... Like 38s (down the Road)..

Thanx,
Rob

if he wants to go to 38s he will be needing gears any way and as for changing a newer motor over it can be done i was told the only things needing changed were the intake and exhaust manifolds.

No computer swap?? Nice.. I could see the Exhaust, Does
anyone make a Header for this Engine Swap?? Who did this
swap? Y the Intake?? The 38s are 2+ years down the road...

ok, are you telling you change your motor from ohc to sohc an the only modification you need was the intake and exhaust ??
no computer mods or wiring mods ??

that is what i was told by a friend who works as a mechanic the main difference in the intake and manifolds is the newer engine has the Egr valve on it. other than that i was told everything else should hook up the same as the older motors. i dont know from experience i went with another 94 motor because i could get it cheaper. i havnt found a 95+ 4.0 with less than 100,000 miles for less than $400.

NO! A SOHC 4.0 and OHV 4.0 are different! you will need a computer and wiring and its more than exhaust and intake, the heads on a SOHC 4.0 are bigger. As well as different Power Steering pump. Keep that in mind.

ARE you sure its a SOHC?

The 4.0 from 92 is OHV there was no SOHC 4.0 in 92 either
