92 4.0 2wd 5spd engine compatibility

Hello All,

The engine in my 92 blew the head gasket a few months ago... Had several other problems like bad oil leaks and cooling issues. So, I'm considering an engine swap.

I've already done some digging, but haven't found the answer yet. Can someone tell me what years I should be looking at for a donor engine?

That is not the same engine. It will work, but it's not the same engine and will require some mod work.

The engine you really need is a 90-94. In 95 the pistons and heads changed. It will work too, but there can be issues crossing the later design with the early electronics.

Just found a 4.0 out of a 93 ranger less than 2 hours from me (on Craigslist...)

Says the engine runs fine and I'd have to pull it myself.

Can someone with experience share with me some questions I should ask this guy before I make a decision?
