92 2.9 Smell of gas under load?

Recently noticed a smell of gas coming in the cab while accelerating on the highway, but when I pop the hood, I don't notice any fuel leaks anywhere. Also changed the plugs last week, and the bottoms were dry with the usual wear (grey to a brownish color)
Also noticed a ticking coming from the engine while accelerating, but it doesn't happen when I rev the engine while parked.
Any ideas or suggestions would be greatly appreciated. Thanks

Have you checked your fuel filler tube lately? I know that ever pre-98 i have owned had the fuel filler hose all dry rotted and cracked and it would cause that smell

The ticking could be an exhaust leak,usually if the motor ticks it goes away with RPM.

I have a 94 that is ticking its the valve train on the engine, But its still going and going very strong... Sorry did not notice the ticking part of the question just noticed the gas smell question and thought oh oh i know this one...

Thanks for the replies. My filler tube has had a crack at the top for some time now, pretty crusty too! But the gas smell is something new, noticeable only during acceleration. Probably going to check further this weekend, checking the fuel pressure and lines, changing out the filter while I'm at it.
Rebuilding injectors, is it hard to do? Don't really want to spend money on new ones, just to hopefully get the original ones cleaned...
