92 2.3L Starter compatibility

I'm trying to find a cheap starter for my 92 XLT 2.3L 5 speed. Like less than $50 and I'm not having any luck. I know its not a part to skimp on but I'm a broke as a joke college student and if it lasts a couple months till i have more money I'll be happy. If anyone knows of anywhere to get one that cheap or has one for sale I'd love to know about it.

Also, my friend has a 03 with the 2.3L 5 speed like mine. Will the starter off of hers work with mine? She has a power-train warranty so if it's compatible it's getting swapped....

it's not the same engine, so no it won't work, sorry.

Starter model numbers are different, so it won't work. Plus they are different engines. It is probably best to go junkyard part finding. Or invest in a hammer to tap on the starter when it starts to act up.

I bought a new (reconditioned) one for mine about two years ago so they should still be available...only paid $100 for it...the junkyard is the next best option...I put one in after my starter went right in the yard parking lot...paid $25 and drove it for about three years with that starter...

They're usually one of the last things to go, but make sure the terminal on the front of the starter is in good shape...or you'll be back for another one before too much crankin' gets done...

where are you at? I might have enough parts to rebuild one with yours if you are close... what's it doing? Napa has most of the parts like bushings and brushes to rebuild them yourself.
