cant figure this thing out, '92 reg cab longbed 2wd, 2.3 with 3.73's and 5 speed manual, stock 215/70/14 tires. only gets about 17 mpg, best ever on a highway trip was 19. has excellent vacuum at idle but at 55 is only about 3-5 in 5th gear, 10 at best in 4rth gear. (on level road with no headwind) compression is weird, 1&2 cyls are at about 140, 3 is about 170 and cyl 4 is 165. has new plugs and wires.new fuel filter, air filter is good. only thing i havent done is look at the timing belt, and i may just go buy one tomorrow. engine has just over 100,000 miles. i had a '88 with the same driveline setup and it never got less than 23 mpg and got 29 highway once. i know this aint going to be like the 4.0 i just retired from service a few months back, but the lack of power is horrible, it will do 70 so i dont think i have a clogged cat. im not sure if my issue is the uneven compression or if a streched timing belt could be causing this drastic fuel useage. any thoughts or ideas?
