Hey guys, here's my dilemma: I just got my truck back from my uncle two days ago. He helped me change my clutch and slave cylinder. I was driving it to a friends house and when we got in my truck and started it up it idled really rough around 750-500 RPM. When I tried to accelerate the engine would miss and act like it wasn't getting enough gas or something. It also sounded like it was back firing a little. Finally it died and I couldn't get it started again. So I had it towed home. I've cleaned my MAF sensor, replaced spark plugs and wires, checked the air filter and oil. All that stuff is good. I called my uncle today and said it sounds like an ignition problem. Any ideas what it could be? I'm stumped. It's a 1991 Ranger 4x4, 4.0L obviously.

Thanks,

Kyle

first things first, check if you have fuel pressure, check if you have spark. Guessing is not the right way to approach the problem.

Update: So I was gone for about a week after I got it towed and guess what? Now it starts up and idles fine. But when I drive it it randomly stutters and almost dies. Like I said, I've done the tune up stuff and I pulled codes recently. For both tests (engine off and on) I got a code 11, pass. I honestly don't know what to do. I've recently replaced my clutch and slave cylinder, could that have anything to do with it?

Again, Did the tuneup involve a fuel filter???? If the filter is blocked it would cause ALL of the issues you are describing.

Sorry, I forgot about that. Yes, I changed the fuel filter...twice. Once for the tune up and shortly after that because I got bad gas a while ago. I'm thinking it might be the injectors because it seems to stutter mainly when I try to accelerate.

take it to a shop and have your injectors purge cleaned.
