'91 ranger radio backlighting

Does anyone know how to fix the backlighting on a '91 factory installed radio ? The Chilton book gave instructions to remove the radio but nothing about the lighting. Thanks in advance for your assistance.

is it the backlighting for the LCD screen. or for the nobs and buttons

Its for the L.C.D. screen, no way to tell which station its on.

mine has that same problem. i got a new aftermarket radio for it. i dont think heres anything you can do but replace it.

Guess it would be easier to get rid of the kid, he changes the station often (all rap but never the same one). I havent changed my station in years. Also the chiltons book lied to me, push in the extraction tools & it comes right out, (I'f I'd been working flat-rate, I'd be broke now).

Carefully pry off the top cover you'll see a white triangle shaped box behind the display with a twist-in light bulb holder. Simply take that out and replace the bulb... a #74 IIRC.
A parts store replacement might be a little brighter than factory cuz' Ford seems to use frosted bulbs, but for the price (2 for ~$3) I'll live with it!
