I got a rebuilt automatic a4ld and there was a new switch and or sensor installed on the servo side next to the tail housing. I asked the guy what is was for, he said he didn't know. It was sitting in his garage for about 5 yrs, and he only asked for an upgrade kit.

I Do have a ticking sound from under the pan by the bell housing in the trans.
I didn't connect the (2 prong switch) because there isn't one. it shifts ok I guess. but I don't was to cause damage. I wonder what its for, and how to hook it up. I only seen 1 like it online for sale, it was called a Torque converter pressure switch? (NOTE: See pic below)!!!

( Note: ticking sound is more like a lifter tap, but I know its not the engine, its not very loud, but noticeable).Just wonder if the switch controls a relay or something under the pan close to the bell housing, about center front pan.

Only electrical connections for A4LD trans are the TCC(2 connectors) or TCC/OD(3 connectors), OD = 3/4 shift

There is also an NSS, neutral safety switch, which screws in above shift linkage, this passes voltage to starter motor relay on fender when trans is in Park or Neutral, and also activates Reverse Lights.

On the tail shaft is the speedometer cable hook up, it can also have a VSS(vehicle speed sensor) attached, with 2 wire connector, it was used for computer and cruise control

Yea, all those are connected, but it dosen't have cruse control or a speed sensor. mine is a 91 ranger, and the guy who sold me the trans said he thinks it came out of a 87 aerostar. all the a4ld I looked at has a hole for a switch just before the tail housing but don't use it.

Bottom line is I still don't know what it is for and how to hook it up. I pretty sure it was part of the upgrade kit.

See the hole just before the tail housing thats where the new switch is located. its a 2 prong connection like in a U shape, not separate into the switch. which leads me to believe that a togo switch can be hooked up to it. Maybe a switch to lock up the torque converter? note: on the passenger side , the side with the servos and vac modulator.

Looks like an aftermarket temperature sensor.
