ok just got the truck 166,000 miles.

ok was pulling out of mcdonalds drive threw didnt give the truck enough gas and boom i killed it, stupid me.
went to start it and nothin i noticed i did not have it in neutrol so i put it in neutrol turned the key and nothin....

so i had to push the truck out of the way started to have a good roll so i dumped the clutch and it started up. got home turned it off tried to start it nothin.

battery is good, everything lights up when i turn the key radio etc.. No crank not even a click from the starter. I can hear the fuel pump kick on. checked all fuses in dash and hood.

kinda think its the Starter but i would @ least get a click or something from it.
thought maybe something like pick up coil or something but yet i would still get some sign from the starter.

thought it might be fuel shut off switch but fuel pump kicks on ( still going to check it in the morning )

im really thinkin its the CPP (clutch pedal postion) i think thats what it means in which the clutch has to be decompressed to start the truck. it seems to be that cause even with the truck in gear and u turn the key same thing wether the CPP was workin or not.

how to i check or fix the CPP also there is something about a sensor that has to make sure the tranny is in (N) cant MLP something like that.

thanks everyone

My dad does something on a no start...turns on the headlights and then tries to start it.

Boy, don't take this as gospel...because I can't remember...I think if the lights blink, then your starter is not the problem...but if they don't "blink" (meaning flicker when you turn the tumbler), then it is the starter.

just tryed it no flick or blink nothin.....

but also is there any way to check the CPP cause i really think its that but not sure.

IF ANYONE knows any idea on how to check, adjust or what ever i need to do to make sure its not the Clutch Pedal Positon??

thanks also for the trick i will try it

the autoparts stores down here have an obd1 tester for 30 bux. it blinks the code but still. comes with a code explanation book and all.

I too have a simuliar problem. Was going down the road and .............. just died.Thought it was the Control Module, cause it would just turn over, no start.(did same thing about 6 months).put on another.still no start.so i put my code tester on. Got a code 67 which is a cluth position sensor fault.I have a manual 5 spd.AND the engine turns over. I still do not have spark, off of either coil pack. The driver side is the comustion side,Im pretty sure. Now my question is Would the Cluth Position sensor not allow spark, and still allow the engine to rotate ? I ask this because in the Haynes manual the wiring diagram say that this is a "Triple Function Switch"? Does any one what the three functions are? Not trying to HI-JACK ur post man, just thought we had simular problems. THANKS TO ALL WHO HELP.

Remember the K.I.S.S. theory. I had the similar problem. It turned out that the small lead wire on the solenoid came off. Also, (MAKE SURE THE TRUCK IS IN NEUTRAL AND THE WHEELS ARE BLOCKED) you can just take a screwdriver and go form the small post to one of the lugs on the solenoid. It should crank, and if you have the key in the run position it should run. Starting the truck from under the hood is dangerous. You might try this with 1 person behind the wheel pressing on the clutch and brakes to be safe.

if the tester says clutch position switch then change it out or clean it, my truck starts without pressing the clutch so the newer engines might not be a clutch kill switch but a maybe they jsut kill the spark when not depressed. just check it out.

Having same problem on company vehicle (96 Ranger, 3.0, 4WD, 5sp). I pulled starter and bench tested it. It is just fine. Truck is also exhibiting strange symptoms with dome lights, outside cargo area lights, etc. Old security system has been disabled, but there are remnants of the system still present. Could these be the source of the problem? I still suspect the Clutch Pedal Position switch, but mention these other issues, just in case.

Just unplug the clutch pedal switch and jump the terminals with a piece of wire. If the switch is bad the truck should start.
