I Just purchased a 91 ranger with a 3.0 L v6 2wd w/od . I think its an a4ld but not sure
here is my problem..... when I bought this truck the front pump seal was blown (like falling out) I removed the transmission and replaced the front seal,
when I got it back together I found the the truck had no reverse. I have all foward gears, but its more complex than just a missing gear.

1. when in park it feels like there is a load on the engine when you try to rev the engine, wont rev over 3k rpm and does not rev freely.

2 when in reverse the truck rolls foward 10-12" and then stops with a jerk, feels like there is a load when you try to give it the gas but goes nowhere.

3. In neutral the truck will actuall drive ? (did not drive to see what happens)
if you shift into neutral while driving down the road it is neutral and engine revs freely.

I have all forward gears including OD. sometimes the transmission shifts fine and sometimes it wants to stick in gear but if you take foot off the gas and let the R's fall it will go to next gear. also sometimes it shifts fine and sometimes it hits hard like its got a shift kit. also sometimes it will hang in gear and not downshift untill you move shifter to a lower gear

Before you ask I did check to make sure that the linkage was properly adjusted and also the vac. line. Not sure if that pump seal (arround input shaft behind torque converter) is a symptom or not but im sure that the fact that was 1/2 blown out of the tranny and not just bad cant be a good sign.
I am currently driving the truck as a daily driver (my only vehicle) and it does ok but im sure im on the verge of disaster.

if anyone can help it would be great. I am totally Lost and as broke as the transmission.

Sounds like forward clutches are welded together from getting hot and slipping when they ran it out of oil.

sounds like that could be the problem........ is this somthing I can fix or should I get a junkyard tranny for $200.00?
