I have a 91 ranger 2 plug per cylinder now sometime the truck runs great pulls hills and everything better then my old 2.9. Then there are days that it won't even pull going down hill. So I tossed a timing light on it for the hell of it. This is where it gets weird at idle the timing was jumping from 10* btc to 40* btc and you can hear it when it starts to jump around. Now I'm lost cause there's no way of setting the timing on this thing. About the best thing I tryed is running both coil packs to fire at the same time so that both plugs fire at the same time. Any idea what could be causing this.

Many things, there are a lot of variables you have to look at, a lot of sensors can cause the issues you're having. You should set the plugs back to the correct factory firing order too. Trust me, if you use on coil for 2 cyl, and the other for the other 2. Your timing is going to be off, you will have 2 cylinders firing 10* different than the other two.

Have your ignition module tested. Those can go bad.

But, weed out possible mechanical problems, first.

Two different auto part stores but in the hope of something to magically work I replaced the module it seems to idle lower so changed the plugs back no help I would really love it if I could get this truck to run right one other thing is the truck never warms up past 140' f

Sounds like someone either removed the thermostat, or it's stuck open, get a new thermostat put it in, and see how it does.
