When I did the clutch in my truck I noticed that the last idiot who changed the trans. fluid in my truck had used gear lube instead of ATF. Is this going to hurt it? It never makes a noise and shift damn good unless it's cold (which makes it damn near impossible to shift). The fluid is REALLY clean, can I leave it or will it hurt the trans?

Edit: This truck has a FM146, not FM145. Sorry!

The FM146 and FM145 call for gear oil and not ATF. The M5OD, however, does use ATF.

Oh, I didn't know that. Thanks for the input. Why the hell is it so hard to shift when cold?

It's 90 weight gear oil, cold and 90 weight don't mix! I don't know tho, I just figure as much, all my B2's are the same

Got me, I hated my FM146. It was always noisy and like you said, was a PITA to shift when cold. Not to mention when I had to take it out and had a nice bath in 80/90 weight the smell was horrible.

I was so happy to swap in my M5OD. Quiet as can be, shifts nicely, and built like a brick shithouse.

Well, bad thing is, I just went through all this trouble of swapping in the 4.0 clutch/flywheel/and starter and now I have decided that I want to switch to a V8/auto combo. I'm sick and tired of this gutless-ass 2.9. It really ain't that bad. It walked on my buddies Explorer about an hour ago. Every gear I pulled about 2 Explorer lengths on him. I want more though. And, I want to get rid of this piece of shit trans, and weak-ass axles. I broke my third front hub in one month tonight. I'm about ready to push it off a cliff. I don't really beat on it that hard in the dirt, I have to drive it to and from work every day. My Mazda B2600I took a hell of a lot more than this and it NEVER broke (including jumping it 50+ feet repeatedly). I may just buy another one.
