'90 ranger 2.9l dead again

Found a dead relay but parts store is closed so i jumped the connector so pump always runs. Checked for spark and i have plenty, air filter not clogged but still wont start this will be the 3rd night it sits on a dirt road, not in my driveway.

A little back story to go off.
I was out wheeling with friends and no problems. Went down a very steep embankment with a sudden drop and almost rolled it but managed to keep all 4 tires down.
Went for a short drive down a dirt road ( the same one it sits on now).
Stopped for a bit and shut it off. Then it wouldn't start and ive spent the last 3 evening's testing electrical and chasing wires to this point.

Inertia switch is fine and working.

Something had to kill the relay... Possibly a short? Not sure really.

The injectors must not be firing. If you have spark then it should start and run if you squirt gas in the throttle body. If it runs doing that, then something is keeping the injectors from firing I'd say.

Anyone else have any ideas? Broken ground strap barreling down the hill perhaps?

You need to check your fuel pressure.

Just because the pumps running dont mean its getting the 40psi or so pressure it needs to run.

Unhook your coil and crank it, see if the plugs are wet. If they are you got a timing issue.

Do you have spark? Everything I saw said you are concentrating on the fuel side, It won't run without spark just as well as it won't run without fuel.

As Bird said... try to start it on an alternate fuel source. Then go from there.

Fuel, air, spark... Missing one or one isn't getting there when it needs to be.

My gut reaction is a dead fusible link somewhere, broken ground, dead tfi, or distributor spun around.

Can you pull trouble codes?

Junkie... LOL... I've popped a couple hoods to find the distributor had spun. Looks like a soft serve ice cream cone on top of the cap. Still makes me laugh. It was always related to someone going into the distributor to change the mechanical advance curve or lock it out and didn't pay enough attention to the details.

And.... you forgot one thing. Compression... they just won't ever start without it.

Always a possibilty, but they way it abruptly quit id bet against it being a compression issue.

Unless the timing chain jumped and the pistons kissed the valves.

I wasn't saying that this was an issue here... but to often in no starts or just driveability issues... we tend to over look the fact that it will NEVER start or perform well without it... and focus on all the electrical/sensor/relays/etc... possibilites.
