I just bought a 90 ranger with the 2.3 and auto. I bought the truck for a father and son project with the intention of doing a 5.0 swap later down the road.

However, I'd like to toss a used tranny in it and drive it while I collect parts and get the body and interior work done.

My buddy has a 4 cyl foxbody with the 2.3 and automatic he said if I pull the motor and transmission I can have them as he's planning a 5.0 swap as well.

Question is, are the transmissions the same?

Is the ranger 2wd? If it is the only other thing I can think of is the orientation of the shifter/kick down levers. Tabs need to be pointing same direction where cables go on.

So the car turned out to be a 92, which meant the front plug was a 3 wire.

Picked one up from an 89 mustang. From what I seen the the levers are different. Also, the neutral safety switch on the Mustang transmission has 4 pins to the Rangers 5, but that be easy to change out.
