My credo
If it isn't in the Constitution it is my duty not to obey .
Did the timing bel already. Top side sensors have been replaced. No vacuum leaks. Suggestions?

You might try cleaning the idle air control and/or replacing the sensor. The throttle linkage does not control the idle.

I have a new iacv on it

unplug the IAC, the engine should idle at around 500rpm (I know, it probably doesn't have a tach, but it'll either run really slow or not at all at that point), if it won't idle adjust the throttle stop screw until it does then plug the IAC back in. Mine used to do that back in the day under the right conditions and I had to adjust the idle stop screw up a bit under the guidance of DaveR and George... :)

That's something else I already tried. It still does it. Dang it anyways. I need to replace the temp sending unit, hopefully that will help.

I'm wondering if the EGR is leaking causing inert gas to go in the intake and make it randomly idle bad... there's not a lot going on in a '89, that's technically what mine started out as, there's like 3 sensors :) try making a temporary EGR blockoff out of a pop can or something, it's just two bolts with 13mm heads.

I will whe I get some time. How do you like the turboed 2.3?

The engine is great now, the power is needed with my current setup though, it would be really boring with a stock engine. I do wish I had the fuel mileage of my original setup though, at one point I got 28mpg, now I get 15mpg... but that 28mpg was before they added ethanol to the fuel bringing down the fuel mileage by 10+%

Heck yea man. I wouldn't mind throwing the turbo ed 2.3 in mine. My gas mileage is crap right now
