I need some help. I bought a 89 ranger for dirt cheap and one of the things I have left to do is to swap the driver side exhaust manifold. The problem is when I started removing the bolts I got one out fine but broke the next. I will probably be able to drill that one out but there is one between the manifold and the firewall, and I am worried that if it will break (which it looks like it will) I will not be able to have room to drill it out.

I am on a limited budget (as in $0) and will not be able to pull the engine because I do not have the resources to do it. So I am wondering if anyone has an idea for removing the bolt without getting it broken in the head.

( PS. the head of the bolt is extremely rusted and there is limited room for tools)

On a 2.9L, it is next to impossible to remove exhaust manifold bolts without breaking at least some. That you got ANY out without breakage is kinda remarkable.

Pulling the engine really is the right thing to do. I'll bet the oil pan is dribbling everywhere as well....

I think your best bet is a SMALL impact wrench and some Kroil, but access is going to be an issue near the heater box.
