89 ranger 2.9/4.0 swap/ wiring harness

hey guys need help I have an 89 ranger with a 92 4.0 engine and 5 speed tranny. will I only need to use the engine wiring harness or will I need to swap both and any other tips would be great

First, Howdy and welcome to TRS!

In your case you should be able to just swap the engine harness (ECU to BWP) and have it plug right in. Some people say there are minor differences in the BWP though.

BTW, BWP = Big White Plug
It's the big obvious connection at the firewall on the drivers' side.

There are differences in the cannon plug between the Rangers and Explorers. Explorers are pinned a little differently, and their rear lighting stays in the cab, doesn't run through the engine bay.

If you get an engine harness from a 90 to 92 Ranger it will be plug and play.
