Anyone know how to remove the instrument cluster? My Chiltons isn't very clear on the subject. I need to replace some bulbs and they are not reachable from underneath. How much "stuff" (ie radio etc.) needs to come out also? Thanks in advance for any info.

Welcome to the forum, I see you're just a little south of me

Cluster is easy to pull. Remove the dash trim - there are two screws holding it on near the ashtray, the rest is just trim clips
Remove the trim panel under the column - couple screws there
Remove the two bolts that hold the column in place and let it drop down, this allows your hand room to get behind the cluster and unhook the speedometer cable
Remove the four screws around the edges of the cluster, pull it out, unplug two electrical connectors on the back of it, done deal

Is the shifter indicator one of those stupid string things? Is it necessary to unhook the speedo cable to get the cluster out far enough to change bulbs?

I lived in Rapid back in the early 70's, moved to Washington state for 40 years, moved back to SD in 15'.....I like Hot Springs.

I got the cluster out far enough to replace bulbs.....good thing as I couldn't get my big, arthritic hands in there to unhook the speedo cable. All good now and a working OEM radio/tape deck installed also. EVERYTHING now works.
