89 4cyl ranger has great compression still smokes

my 89 ranger starts and runs great and will idle all day long with no smoke.but when i give it gas it starts smoking that blue oil smoke.and the more i gas it the more it smokes need help.oh and it has great compression so i dont think its the rings.has anyone else had a problem like this please respond thnx fordsmylife

if its not rings, its either valve seals or head gasket. are you sure the smoke is oil smoke and not coolant smoke?

Mine does the same thing. It smokes when I get into the pedal. I did a compression test toady and it had 170 on the first three pots and 125 on the one in the back, not trying to hy-jack your thread but can anyone tell me how to tell if its the rings or in the head?????

How bitchy are they to do? I got a Chiltons coming in the mail, Im gonna tear off the head and send it out. I was also thinking of porting and polishing the head while I was at it. I really like the performance of this 2.3 in my Rat( see Avitar) and the things getting like 38 MPG to boot.

You also need to check things like oil level (is it overfull?) and fuel quality (is there something other than gas in it?).
If you are going to pull the head to have the GUIDES repaired it would be the perfect time to do a port match and bowl blend. Any porting other than that won't help.
